Athletic Running Shoes: Not Just For Sports

Like any other sport or exercise, running requires equipment that enables the person to perform the sport or exercise safely and comfortably. For running, this basic and most important equipment is athletic running shoes.

Athletic running shoes are specially designed for running as a sport and as a physical activity. These kinds of shoes come by different names, depending on what part of the world a person lives in. For example, they are known as trainers by the British, sandshoes by the Australians, running shoes by Canadians, sneakers by North Americans and takkies by South Americans.

Athletic running shoes are made of flexible but tough material for comfort. Sometimes, the fabric is interlaced with padding, to make provide more cushion. The fabric is attached to a sole that is typically made of rubber. A lot of manufacturers have their own styles of athletic running shoes that modify either the sole or the fabric. For example, some running shoes feature thicker soles with spikes for track running.

But athletic running shoes are not just for sports. They can also be worn for a casual look. In fact, a lot of teenagers and young people wear athletic running shoes while going to the mall, enjoying with friends and engaging in other activities that are not associated with running. The words "sneakers" and "trainers" are associated with the casual use of these sporting shoes.

Manufacturers who make athletic running shoes that can be worn casually incorporate a more retro design. In fact, the design may be more for aesthetic purposes than for use in sports.

Many athletic running shoes that are originally designed solely for sports or exercise have found a niche for casual use. Some of these popular shoes are Chuck Taylor All Star, the Dunlop Volley and Adidas Samba.

The designs also differ, depending on the place where the manufacturer makes its headquarters. For example, athletic running shoes that come from Germany have a more aggressive, tough look. Italian designs are more on the lines of romance and classics. Usually, the materials are finer and more expensive.

To advertise them, these athletic running shoes are endorsed by athletes and recently, by non sporting celebrities. These allowed popular shoe manufacturers such as Adidas, Nike, Puma, Rebook, Converse, Fila and Asics to gain a lot of profit. Lately, this trend has penetrated the hip hop market.

So, when you buy a nice pair of athletic running shoes, remember that they are not just for sports. They are also for fashion.
